From the very first time I worked with glass, I've been struck with how magical a transformation it undergoes. To move from material so rigid, sharp, and momentary through intense heat to create something equally fragile but united never fails to surprise me.
My traditional work is all about play, discovery, and whimsy. The stories and characters within seem to suggest themselves from the found-object quality of the glass shard shape to the collage formation of critters that make me laugh. It is a combination of conscious technique and serendipitous discovery.
These pieces allow me to continue my experimentation with drawing on glass. I create drawings-usually from nature and scan them into the computer where I tinker and simplify them. I create vinyl stickers and remove images leaving a "negative space" hole in the sticky vinyl.
Using ground glass powder mixed into a medium that allows me to draw with glass on glass opens up a whole new way to produce unique and fun pieces. I love the easy flow of drawing with glass to create characters that make me laugh.
